I’ve often wondered how urinals end up the way they do at the end of a day. Usually, my wondering ceases upon leaving the premises but today I ruminated a bit more on the disgusting decay of a common urinal during the course of a day. In the morning, the urinal is clean. In the evening, it is not. The most confusing thing is the presence of solids. I mean, I can guess at why the floor isn’t so spic and span – although it’s difficult to see how people miss so badly and so often – but solids! That’s baffling. And this is at a workplace where standards of decency are supposedly met. I also hate talking in the bathroom. It’s like laughing at a funeral. Don’t do it.
Reading over the previous paragraph confirms it as a not-so-pleasant topic but I’ll keep it. In other news, the Super Bowl came and went yesterday. Thankfully, the game was finally a good one. I happen to think the NFL season peaks during the playoffs and the Super Bowl is usually a forgettable disappointment. It’s not just the drawn-out game but the neutral crowd that creates a ho-hum atmosphere. This time around the game was quick and the crowd was great. Of course, the game itself was good as well – but, really, atmosphere is three-fourths the excitement of a sporting event. It explains why the Olym pics are exciting (well, kinda) and the majors in tennis are better than the Wells Fargo.
Finally, I need to say a few more words about the Wire. I’m now completely caught up and I’m as firm a believer as ever that it is the finest drama ever shown on the small screen. The final episodes of the fourth season were some of the most powerful stuff since some super-junkies conceived of the chronic. As has been noted in many outlets thus far – well, I’m guessing it has because I’ve never read any reviews of the show – the main draw is its realism. Even though we rarely get too much story on most of them, the characters are deep and rarely seem like caricatures – as they often do on the Sopranos. By the way, that’s why I don’t like the McNalty storyline so far this season – it just doesn’t seem very realistic. I’ll probably stay away from television shows for a while after it’s over to break down my tolerance. Maybe I’ll continue to follow Lost and Battlestar Galactica – whenever it starts up again – but then this show pony hits the rodeo circuit.
