The only french hiphop I’ve really listened to is MC Solaar but I’ve heard a lot of random songs with really good beats. I know the other “big” french hip hop act is IAM. You can check out some songs at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFxUc_jb4X4 and check related videos.
It’s weird you saw that video… a French hip-hop song over clips of Samurai Champloo? That’s random. Samurai Champloo is actually a pretty cool show. It and Cowboy Bebop (made by the same people) use music really well to set tone and pace.
